A Sleek Cabin Made From Shipping Containers
A great example of reduce, reuse and recycle comes alive in this set of shipping containers.
The home's owner, Joseph Dupuis, bought three shipping containers for $3,400 each for a grand total of $10,200. He then set about turning them into a modern-style cabin, just outside of Canada's capital city, Ottawa.
The cabin measures just 355-square-feet but its open layout gives it a much bigger look. The home is also equipped to handle any weather with both insulation to keep heat in during the winter months and a cooling-system to keep things down during the summer.
There's also a wood stove, solar panels and a full kitchen. The only thing the home is missing is a full bathroom, which is still waiting approval from local government.

ReplyDeleteI really love the idea of shipping containers for homes. I know in Amsterdam in Holland they have a project called Wenckehof, which is a whole estate made from steel shipping containers. Most cities have high population growths and struggle to find ways to provide more housing - this seems a great way to provide new homes for the most needy.
